The Karimjee Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Karimjee Group.
The Group is a family-owned business founded by the Karimjee family with 200 years of existence. Since arriving in Tanzania in 1825, the family has been carrying out charitable work in local communities throughout the country and across East Africa.

For seven generations, KF has supported causes and organisations that share its values and tradition. The Foundation believes in long term and sustainable action to tackle the social challenges facing the country and its communities. 2025 is the 15-year anniversary of the Foundation’s official registration in Tanzania.

Foundation Initiatives
In alignment with the UN’s SDG’s, Karimjee Foundation provides educational scholarships, empowers reading and learning, supports gender equality and rights, promotes disability inclusion, advances science, technology, and youth empowerment, and fosters wildlife conservation. The Foundation has made a tangible difference to the lives of thousands of young Tanzanians, through its own scholarship programmes and support to a select group of education centred NGO’s and philanthropic networks.
Purpose
Scholarship Programs
Karimjee Foundation provides education scholarships for young Tanzanians to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies at local universities.
The Foundation also offers Conservation Scholarships to Tanzania students at the University of Glasgow, to study a 2-year Conservation Management of African Ecosystems MSc. Our aim is to strengthen the Tanzanian community of conservationists and scientists.

Young Scientists Tanzania
Young Scientists Tanzania is a high-profile grassroots STEM initiative that empowers secondary school students by fostering academic ambition and offering valuable opportunities for scientific research. YST highlights the incredible potential of Tanzanian students to create and test solutions for challenges ranging from everyday issues to some of the world’s most pressing global problems. The initiative inspires young people to harness STEM to drive positive change and innovation in Tanzania.

Read Tanzania
Education is the cornerstone for long-term change in Tanzania. We work with Read Tanzania to help Tanzanian students access educational resources by building or refurbishing libraries, supplying much-needed textbooks and, more recently, donating computers equipped with learning software to various schools.

Msichana Initiative
Gender-based violence remains widespread in Tanzania. Through our partnership with Msichana Initiative, we help advance gender equality and champion girls’ right, having reached over 16,000 adults, organised 25 community cafés to spark dialogue, and trained 104 teachers to better protect and empower young girls.

Sports Development Aid
Across Tanzania over 3.3 million people live with a disability. Sports Development Aid (SDA) aims to raise awareness of the importance of basic education among children, focused on the most vulnerable groups to promote human rights and gender equality in poor and rural communities. We work with SDA to promote inclusive education in Mtwara and Lindi.
